Creating a Gizmo

A Gizmo is an object that is used to group one or more Crystal Reports or SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) Reports. This group of reports will be automatically run together and delivered to one or more destinations such as email, FTP or a file system location. IntelliFront BI allows you to create the most basic Gizmo, with just a name, to the most advanced Gizmo with a combination of Crystal and SSRS Reports, multiple triggers, multiple destinations and even a Data-Driver. Its up to you!

Create a Gizmo from the Workshop area's Gizmo tab:

  1. Click the Add button  to start a new gizmo
  2. The Add Gizmo page appears: 



  3. Type the gizmo name in the Add name... field.  
  4. Optionally, define tags for this gizmo.  Create a new tag or select from existing tags.
  5. Optionally, type the gizmo description.
  6. Optionally, select a Board to group multiple gizmos together. 
  7. Click Save Gizmo button.  
    When you have saved your gizmo, a green success message appears briefly in upper, right corner: 



    The default action of the Save button is to save the object you are working on and to remain on the page. However, you can select other options by clicking the dropdown arrow:



    Clicking Save and Close will return you to the Gizmo tab and it will be filtered to show only your newly created or edited gizmo.

This is the minimum required to save a gizmo. However, you should add Reports or Tasks, schedule a trigger, and define the output destination in order for the gizmo to be fully functioning.  As you progress through creating a gizmo, the status area will highlight to show the sections you have completed.
