Installing SQL-RD

Follow

**IMPORTANT**

  • Before beginning the installation, please ensure that ALL of the pre-requisites listed on the SQL-RD Pre-Requisites page have been met. This ensures that SQL-RD runs as expected. Failure to meet the listed pre-requisites may result in errors occurring.
  • Installation and Configuration of SQL-RD on a new machine are not part of normal technical support. If assistance is needed or requested during the SQL-RD installation or configuration process, Professional Services can help for a nominal consultation fee.

Preparing for the Installation

Note: These steps must be completed prior to running the SQL-RD installer.

After downloading and extracting the latest build/version of SQL-RD, perform the following steps:

1. If you are installing SQL-RD for the first time on this machine, turn off your Anti-Virus software. You will turn it back on again once the installation of SQL-RD has completed.

2. Unblock the SQL-RD installer.

    • Open the appropriate SQL-RD version/build folder. Note: This is most likely located in your Downloads folder.
    • Highlight and then right click the SQL-RD Setup file.
    • Click Properties.
    • On the General tab, click Unblock in the lower right corner. Note: If Unblock is not present, the SQL-RD installer is already unblocked.
    • Click Apply.
    • Click OK.

Note: Some security features, such as Windows SmartScreen, can block certain files or flag them as potentially unwanted. If the SQL-RD installer is run without being unblocked, SQL-RD will not run properly.

3. Change the Compatibility Settings.

    • On the Properties window for the SQL-RD Setup file that you opened in the previous step, click the Compatibility tab.
    • In the Settings section at the bottom of the window, ensure that Run this program as an administrator has a check next to it. If it does not, check it.
    • Click Apply.
    • Click OK.

Note: You must perform this step even if you are logged in as an Administrator or have Administrative rights on this computer.

Beginning the Installation

To install the latest build/version of SQL-RD, perform the following steps:

1. Right click the SQL-RDSetup file and select Run as Administrator.

2. Click OK on the Welcome message.

3. Allow SQL-RD to unpack and prepare the installer. You do not need to click anything during this process.

4. When the Setup Bootstrap window appears, please read the pre-requisite information regarding Crystal 2011 and SQL-RD.  Then, proceed based on the following:

    • If the computer you are currently using meets the Crystal pre-requisite listed, click OK.
    • If it does not, click Cancel. You will not be able to proceed with the installation until this pre-requisite is met.

5. You should now see the SQL-RD Requirements Window. This means that the SQL-RD installer is detecting whether or not this computer has the basic requirements for SQL-RD to install.

    • Green checkmarks indicate that the associated requirement is met.
    • Yellow hazards indicate that setup was unable to detect if the requirement is met.
    • Red x's indicate that the requirement is not met, and SQL-RD cannot continue with the installation.

Note: If you are unfamiliar with any of the settings listed on the pre-requisites window, contact your System Administrator.

Proceed based on the following:

If no red x's are present: Select the version of Crystal Reports installed on this computer and click Next.

If red x's are present: You will need to click Cancel and ensure that this computer meets all of the SQL-RD Pre-Requisites before continuing.

6. To show that you have read and understood the Pre-Requisites page, check the box and click Next

7. When the Welcome message pops up, click Next.

8. Carefully read the License Agreement.

Once you have fully read and understand the License Agreement, click the radio button next to I accept the terms in the license agreement. Then, click Next.

If you do not accept the terms of the license agreement, you will not be able to proceed with the installation.

9. Now, you will see the Select Destination Folder screen.  You can choose to leave the default destination folder that is currently listed or select your own. Click Next.

Note: Leaving the default destination as the destination folder is recommended.

10. You should now see a Ready to Install window detailing the current settings for the SQL-RD installation. These details include the destination folder you chose in Step 10, as well as the Disk Space Requirements for the SQL-RD installation.

Click Next.

Note: The Disk Space Requirements will vary from build to build. This is only the amount of disk space that is required for the installation/components of SQL-RD.

11. Allow the SQL-RD installation to complete. You do not need to click anything during this process.

12. When the Installation completed successfully message appears, click OK.

13. Click Finish to continue.

14. At this time, you will see a Feature Selection window. Do NOT select any of the options listed! This screen can be ignored.

Click Cancel.

15. At this time, you may see a pop-up stating that you will need to restart your computer in order to complete the SQL-RD installation.

Click Cancel.

You can restart your computer at a later time.

SQL-RD is now successfully installed on this machine. Please proceed to the After Installation section.

After Installation

Once SQL-RD has been successfully installed, complete the following steps to ensure SQL-RD functions as expected:

1. Verify that the installation destination folder is shared.

    • Navigate to the folder you selected as the Destination Folder in Step 10 of the Beginning the Installation section. Note: If you used the default destination, this will be Local Disk (C:) > Program Files (x86) > ChristianSteven.
    • Highlight and then right click the destination folder.
    • Click Properties.
    • Click the Sharing tab.
    • Verify that, in the Network File and Folder Sharing section, the word Shared is listed under the folder name.

2. Proceed based on the following:

If the word Shared is listed under the folder name:

    • Continue to Step 3.

If the words Not Shared are listed under the folder name:

    • Click Advanced Sharing under the Advanced Sharing section.
    • Check the box next to Share this folder.
    • Enter a name for this folder in the Share name: field. This can be whatever you like.
    • Click Apply and then OK.
    • Ensure that Shared is now listed under the folder name.

3. Verify that Administrators and users who will be accessing SQL-RD have full control.

    • On the Properties window for the ChristianSteven folder (which you opened in Step 1), click the Security tab.
    • Under the Group or user names section, locate and click Administrators.
    • Under the Permissions for Administrators section, verify that a check is displayed next to Full Control.
    • Repeat these steps for nonadministrative users who will be using SQL-RD.

4. Proceed based on the following:

If Administrators and all applicable users have Full Control:

    • Click Close.
    • Continue to Step 5.

If Administrators and all applicable users do not have Full Control:

    • Click Edit.
    • Highlight the group or user name that did not have control.
    • Under the Permissions for section, check the box under the Allow column next to Full Control.
    • Click Apply then click OK.
    • Verify that the Administrators and all applicable users now show Full Control.
    • Click Close.

5. Navigate to Local Disk (C:) > Program Data > Christian Steven

6. Repeat Steps 1 - 4 for this location. You can use the screenshots located above for reference as the screen will be the exact same for this second location.

Note: SQL-RD creates a folder in both the Program Files (x86) and Program Data locations. You must go to both locations and verify that the folders are shared and that all applicable users have full control. Failure to do will cause SQL-RD to not work as expected.

7. Ensure the SQL-RD.EXE file is set to Run as an administrator.

    • Navigate to Local Disk (C:) > Program Files (x86) > ChristianSteven > SQL-RD.
    • Locate the file named SQL-RD that says Application under the Type column.
    • Highlight then right click the SQL-RD application you just located.
    • Click Properties.
    • Click the Compatibility tab.
    • Click Change settings for all users.
    • Under the Settings section, check the box next to Run this program as an administrator.
    • Click Apply and then click OK.
    • Click OK.

8. If you turned off your Anti-Virus software, you may turn it back on at this time.
